What do you fancy for dinner tonight? A tasty salad? A burger, fries and cake? Pasta? Or maybe something more traditional like shepherds pie or fish and chips? Perhaps you have a hankering for just a sandwich. Well, no matter what you fancy, you can’t go wrong at Eat by Chloe in Covent Garden. Even your dog wont miss out here because they have ‘Woof by Chloe’ selection to keep your pooch happy! And did I tell you that *everything* is vegan? And delicious! I’m not sure I’d even be bothered if the food at was not that great though, because this is the kind of place you go to because it’s cool AF.
The friendly waiter, spotting my Vego bar on the table (who even leaves the house without a Vego bar?) asked me if I was vegan, and was surprised to hear that I am. He told me that most people who eat there are non-vegan, but just come because it’s such a cool spot. No one can resist this place! Everything looks amazing here.
The pink neon sign on the wall and the hanging swinging chairs by the windows give you perfect Insta shot material. Then there’s the rest of the branding. The stylish, minimal logo and cute little food illustrations are applied to perfection on everything from the shop front sign, to the menu, to the cute packaging your food arrives in. The attention to detail is next level. It’s like super chic fast food packaging and chic girly decor on steroids. The bag I was given my takeaway in was stylish enough to have been from a high end clothes shop! They even serve coconut water from a fresh coconut stamped with the Chloe logo!
I met my cousin Sarah in there for dinner after a long day of travel and meetings, and the casual atmosphere, friendly staff, modern glam luxury style decor and tasty and gorgeous food meant it was the perfect place to unwind and catch up. I had sweet potato fries with the Classic Burger, which is a tempeh-lentil-chia-walnut patty on a potato bun loaded with pickle, onion, beetroot ketchup and special sauce. The sweet potato fries are probably the best I’ve had to date, and the burger was tasty and light. I helped myself to more of the yummy beetroot ketchup at the condiment station to dip my chips in.
Sarah, (who has been getting up for 5am runs and eating all the good stuff, with a designer bridesmaid dress for an upcoming wedding in mind) opted for the healthy Kale Caesar Salad, topped with mushroom bacon and cashew parmasan. Oh my goodness, this mushroom bacon is seriously good stuff!
Of course, I couldn’t leave without cake, so I got the chocolate chip banana bread and some kind of blueberry muffin to take home, so my joy continued at work the next day as I stuffed myself full of my fluffy and crumbly muffin and my (dare I say this awful word?) moist and sweet banana bread. Both cakes were really gorgeous. Even my defiantly anti-vegan boss, whose interest was piqued by the gorgeous take away bag, couldn’t help but compliment them after he was tempted into to trying a bit. I could eat that banana bread all day long!
Did I die and go to vegan heaven? I think I did. I can really appreciate the work that’s gone into this place, and take my proverbial cap off to the owners for what I see as dedicated activism work here – such a fantastic way to get more non-vegans involved in veganism! I’m so desperate for Eat by Chloe to come to my home town, Manchester. If it does, you’ll never get me out.
