There have been plenty of times I felt down about being a 34 year old single pringle, but if being able to buy a pink sofa with no objections from a whining man isn’t a perk of the single life then I don’t know what is! When I bought my house I thought I knew exactly how I wanted it to look. I’ve changed my mind a million times on almost every aspect of my house design, except for one thing – my pink velvet sofa. I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life. Sure, a pink sofa is not for everyone, and not just anyone will be allowed to sit on it either! However, if there’s one thing I know about my pink sofa, it’s that it’s magnetic. Even the burliest of men – who have fitted my bathroom and knocked through my interiors walls – have gravitated towards it like a moth to a flame. Everyone who sees it wants to touch it, stroke it, sit on it. It sounds like something you shouldn’t want. On paper it’s garish and tasteless. But in reality it has a gravity that draws in even the most unwilling admirer. It’s a piece of perfect art – a centre piece if there ever was one. I knew straight away that I didn’t just want any old pink sofa, so I found the perfect shade of grown up peachy pink crushed velvet and had a local upholster whip me up this big, beautiful marshmallow flump.
I opted for a traditional Howard style, and my fabric is Laura Ashley ‘Coral’ crushed velvet that I hunted down on eBay as it had been discontinued in store.
My next sofa project is for my open plan kitchen-dining room, and I already have in mind a retro dark green velvet number. I’ll keep you posted.
