I know I’m not the only one who likes a change of scenery for work. Am I right? Whenever I get the chance to have a meeting out of the office, I take it! It gets my enthusiasm and creative juices flowing and brightens my day. I’m all for raising moral at work – who wants to be plonked at the same desk in the same windowless office for 9 hours, 5 days a week?! And what better place to go to for a meeting, write a blog post or study and read a book than somewhere that serves great coffee and food?
Well here I have a little gem for you. It’s a cafe. It’s a shop. It’s a gallery. It has a yoga studio. It’s a centre for arts, crafts and language. It’s an anything goes space. Looking for a somewhere to hold a creative writing group? A still life drawing class? A business meeting? A baby shower? A vegan group? Here it is. ‘Meet, Eat, Create’ is it’s tag line, and it really is the creative freelancer’s and cafe connoisseur’s dream.
In the interests of full disclosure I have to admit that Reclamation Room is my sister’s creation. But I’m not just being biased here. Hidden, as all the best places are, on a back street in little Uppermill on the very outskirts of Greater Manchester – think canals, independent boutiques, country walks and beautiful scenery – the laid back vibe and friendly welcome in this old schoolhouse setting, refurbished to scandi-chic heaven, has me going back time and again.
For me this is the perfect place to get a healthy lunch, a coffee or two, and discuss a work project or get stuck into my blog. I also spent hours in here on my laptop researching my home refurbishment.
This is an omni cafe, but you don’t have to worry about stinky meat smells here, and there are some really great and healthy plant based options that mean vegans will not get bored. My favourites are the ‘posh’ beans on toast, avocado on sourdough, tomatoes con tostados, or a fresh salad plate which you can build from any of the above and more. Plus, their soup of the day more often than not is vegan and is always freshly made in the morning. The coconut and sweet potato soup is on point – I often order a second round home! And the vegan chocolate and raspberry or lemon drizzle is the sweet as can be. Got the taste buds tingling yet? Manchester vegans get yourselves to Reclamation Room, I promise you won’t regret it.
